Ahhhh..... Back Home

"J" and I just got back from Utah tonight. I missed checking in with you all and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Mine was pretty good I must say. We just had the holiday with my dad (age 64) and his "husband"(age 35)and yes....that was a drama bombshell for you all to absorb. It was great to see them and one good weekend - getting out of our house which has been oozing with sadness, not thinking about the miscarriage and our plans for trying again....it was so nice.

We had all of the staples of a good feast and my father would not stop griping about how I insisted on an organic turkey, commenting in the $.39 vs. $1.99 per pound difference in price...hey you get what you pay for. It was delicious.

We all drank yummy red wine and shared many stories (the same ones my hubby tells me are told each and every Thanksgiving...oh well). It was a nice time for sure. We even made it to my first experience in an Ikea - what a great place! a little colorful and crazy and the Swedish meatball cafeteria is a little strange...but it is a cool place!

On another note, I hate flying....like seriously think about canceling the trip each and every time I have a flight coming up....I hate it more than anything else. But I have found the most amazing secret to help me out - One vodka tonic (at 8am) and one Xanax - it worked miracles.

Thankfully there were not to many reminders of how sad I am sometimes and how recent this second loss is. Only at the airport seeing all of the new babies flying for the first time....all bundled up in their slings on their happy, content and blissful mothers....that was tough but I got through it. The toughest part is hearing their brand new, tiny helpless cries which instantly bring a tear to my eye and an utter feeling of emptiness...every time.

Glad you had a good weekend with your dad and his hubby. And sorry the edges were tinted with sadness.

(and yeah, I don't know too many meghans with an h, I was always the only one growing up)

Hi, Meg. Thanks for your comment on my blog.

I'm so sorry about all you've had to endure this year. It certainly sounds like it has been a rough one for you guys. I'm glad to hear you were able to enjoy your holiday, even if it was just for a bit.

Glad to hear you had a good one...minus the rough viewings of the little ones. And isn't Ikea great! We have them all over California and they are like pure heaven to my friends and I. Although we all are scared of their meatballs as well. ;)

Glad that overall your Thanksgiving weekend was pretty good. I always loved flying until 9/11, now it makes me a bit more nervous.

I'm a newbie to your blog, but wanted to say hi. I met my hubby about when you met yours (99?), dated far too long, married in 06, about to start grad school, and have 2 goofball labradors. Just thought that was interesting. :)

I'm sorry Thanksgiving had its rough parts. It seems the world is just saturated with babies and how wonderful they are, doesn't it?

I don't know I was more surprised with, the fact that your dad has a husband (which is totally cool) or that they live in Utah.

I am sorry you had to deal with the babies at the airport. So sad. I was in your shoes last Tgiving. We went skiing and I nearly burst into tears on the chairlift everytime I saw a little mini-ripper in snowplow position. Sigh. Hang in there.
