Cole is a four year old Labrador retriever. He is special in many ways. He came from a terrible puppy mill where he and his siblings were products of severe inbreeding and they spent the first 8 weeks of their life packed together, squished in airline carriers. The woman was arrested, over 80 labs were found on her property and more than half of them had to be euthanized. Sadly, she ended up killing herself before she faced the charges. This story and where Cole came from continue to give me chills.
This adorable man takes up a lot of my time and energy.
- When he was 4 months, he was acting strangely and we brought him to the vet and his x-ray showed several rocks and a piece of a hose nozzle in his belly. To this day he loves rocks, sticks and pine cones. He has had one major surgery to remove a rock and has swallowed more than we know. He is known to shit perfectly formed intact pine cones. He now has complete health insurance coverage.
- He cannot do any normal lab things, like swimming or fetching. He runs around us in circles when we throw a ball and when he swims, if he gets too far...he has no clue how to get back to us and spins in a circle in water. It is so sad. At his daycare, they have an indoor big pool and he has to wear a life preserver ;).
- He is VERY mischievous in the house, I mean really naughty. He loves to TP the house if we leave the TP on the roll, he steals drink coasters off of the tables and man he loves socks and underwear.
- Over Christmas, when I was taking a shower...I got out and found him in the middle of the living room rolled up in the tree skirt, which was under the tree and tied in the back when I got in the shower.
- Tonight when J was in the shower and I was at class, Cole got the Kleenex box from the table. Let's just say it looked like it snowed in the entire house. But he had fun I guess.
So while I do not have any children, I do have a fur baby that keeps me busy.

What a sweet boy, I'm so glad he has a happy life with you now.
One of our dogs is a lab and he, well, he isn't the most intelligent dog out of the 3. He eats anything, there's often something odd in his poop, though no pinecones.
Rory sucks at retrieving (my border collie is fantastic) and is scared of the waves at the beach.
You've gotta love them though.
Cole's adorable, even if he isn't the easiest dog in the world. I'm glad you two have been able to provide a loving home and a good life for him -- so different from where he began.
Our dog is Cole's opposite -- not supposed to fetch or swim (he's beagle/basset/jack russell) but loves to do both. And he gets in essentially no mischief (though he barks at *everything*).
Oh What a beauty!! It is just awful what some people do to animals! I know Cole is very loved and cared for at your home (even if he is a lil difficult to manage)
Your loving acceptance of Cole and all his "issues" just confirms to me what an incredible mother you will be.
Also, I need to get the name of that doggy daycare from you again....
Cole is so handsome! Sounds like he definitely keeps you on your toes. I remember that story about the puppy mill. Cole is so lucky to have found you.
Your stories of his naughtiness just reminded me of a picture of Scout caught at the scene of a puppy crime. I'll have to post that one. Thanks for giving me an idea of what to post today!
ahhhh - he's ~so~ sweet and innocent looking. I'd never believe those stories about him by just looking at his picture.
That is a very, very cute pup you've got! I want a lab so badly. Maybe one of these days. I'm glad he found a good home.
BTW, I love your floors. :)
He's such a cutie! And I attribute all the naughty things my puppy does to her puppyness. Not the fact I'm a bad role model or something!
Cole is cute!! I loved the stories. We have a crazy dog too (an Aussie named Abi). She is my first daughter and thinks she is a human with fur!!
I love my fur babies. They each have a rescue story, some tamer than others. It's been incredibly fulfilling caring for them.
That is one adorable pup and he is so very lucky to have such patient parents. :)
What a sweet and very lucky dog. I have two "kids" as well. An airedale and a golden retriever who bring my husband and I alot of joy.
Wonderful post and glad I found it.
There is a special place in hell for people who mistreat animals. So glad that you rescued Cole. He obviously seems like a lucky pup. An indoor pool at doggy daycare? Wow. Stylin'!
He sounds so adorable. I mean, I can't help but to think he must look so cute in his little vest in the water. What a sweetie. I'm a crazed dog person - can you tell?
