Phone Consult

I have a phone consult with my RE today. I have a few questions for him before we try again soon. UPDATED - with answers

1. Is there any cause for concern if my cycles continue to be strange. Again this month, I am only CD 21 (8DPO) and I already see some light spotting and cramping. I believe AF will not be here for a few days but I am still worried that I have so many dull crampy/spotty days so soon after I ovulate. I spotted heavily/red flow around 8DPO with both pregnancies and wonder if this pattern interferes with implantation or something.

His answer: when there is spotting that early in a cycle he would expect:

a) no ovulation (unlikely in my case with surges being detected)
b) uterine polyp or fibroid (unlikely but possible)
c) abnormal pap (unlikely since May pap was normal)
d) chlamydia or gonorrhea (unlikely)
e) hormones (possible)

So our plan of action is to go ahead with the 25mg of progesterone each cycle and if I continue to have the early spotting for a few more cycles with this supplementation, he will schedule a sononhyst. to look for any new uterine growths. Does 25mg once a day sound like a tiny dose to you? It sure does to me.....especially since many of my RPL books say a typical dosage is at least 50mg per day.

2. I would like more info on the progesterone script I have. It has been a long time since I received the script and forgot some of his instructions.

His answer: 25mg vag. supp. beginning 4 days after monitor surge. Stop if AF begins and continue if pregnant.

3. I would like his advice on taking low dose aspirin. I am gravitating towards using this as more of a mental crutch for me, to somehow feel like I am at least doing SOMETHING to help a fat healthy baby stay around longer. I just want to know his take on the risks/benefits of doing this.

His answer: He typically advices this if there is an indication that it is needed, like lupus anti-coagulation. Since all of my RPL tests came back normal and I was treated for a uterine septum, he does not think this is necessary. He did say he is fine if I wish to use it as there is relatively low risks involved. So.....how many of you just added this to your bag of tricks in your pregnancy? Not sure if I should do this or not. Should I try taking low-dose aspirin with the idea that it “can’t hurt, and might help"?

4. Do I continue with the parlodel.

Hi answer: Yes. I will stay on this until I get pregnant.

I had a miscarriage last September, reason unknown but assumed to be genetic abnormalities.

I started taking Aspirin 81mg every day for heart health reasons, but my RE said he was fine with me continuing to take it. I am now 5 weeks pregnant and actually didn't have any implantation bleeding this time (last time it was more than spotting and lasted three days). I am also on Progesterone supplements for short luteal phase.

It is still too early to tell if the aspirin is really making a difference I suppose, but things are good so far.

I am on baby aspirin because it was part of my IVF protocol (a standard protocol at CCRM). My OB said she would keep me on it throughout my entire pregnancy (including through delivery) because "it won't hurt anything and could help." If I were you, I would add it in if your doc has that same philosophy.

I took the baby aspirin and Lovenox (Rx), because they can also help with auto-immune issues relate to miscarriage.

I *needed* to do it, just to feel like I was doing something after the previous 2 miscarriages.

Well as you know I'm just crammed up with Progesterone. I'm still currently on 200mg/2 times per day vaginally. Then again everytime I stop I bleed so go figure. I think I probably don't need it but the doctor's are too fearful to take me off. Did your RE test your progesterone? They can do a test on day 22 of your cycle and can see then if you're low. That's how I found out I was low. Also be on careful watch for your period on the progesterone. It can delay bleeding causing one to think they are pregnant. I was put on the aspirin plus medrol because of the lupus thing, although I think my RE is a fan anyhow. Although by ob is seriously not a fan of aspirin. Go figure.

I'm late to this post, but I wanted to weigh in on the baby aspirin. I prescribed it to myself in August and that was the cycle I had the crazy amounts of bleeding, and also when I got huge bruises, the likes of which I've never seen on anyone short of a major accident. I fell down on my stairs and had a bruise that looked insane. I don't know if it's related to the baby aspirin, but I've stopped taking it since then.

Some doctors recommend starting it ONCE you have the BFP, but not before.

I have low progesterone and was on 200mg 2x per day for the back half of my cycles. I had to take a pregnancy test every cycle b/c the prometrium would hold off AF. During my pregnancy, I was on 200mg 3x per day. Being supplemented that much made me so tired.

I also took 81mg of baby aspirin every day until my first trimester ended.

The baby aspiring doesn't hurt, so I would just hedge. However, if you are going to have surgery - even simple stuff like dental surgery - you have to go off of it for a week because it thins your blood too much.

I'm totally onboard with taking the baby aspirin in a belief that it gives me some kind of control over my pregnancy. And, yup, it can't hurt! Though they had me start it only once a HB was seen.
