I am a huge fan of children's books. I have an inventory in my head of exactly which ones are my favorites. I hope to someday fill my children's life with many many books and stories. I think the largest piece of children's furniture I will have will be their bookshelf.
I also think instead of a toy drive for Christmas (which many places canceled this year because jackasses were donating old toys they found out were on the recall list...what assholes donate their lead infested toys to underprivileged kids?), there should be a book donation. Young kids need more books and time to play outside in the woods, catching frogs.
More books. More woods. More frogs. Less TV. Less video games. Less computers. Got it? Come on people....spread the word.
I love the Olivia books. You know, the cute pencil pig with the bright red dress....love her. She is just so funny and cute. In one book, she gets a time out on the stairs for trying to replicate a Jackson Pollock painting on her bedroom wall...
I love the Little Pea. This adorable green pea has to eat five pieces of dinner, which in his case is pieces of candy which he painstakingly swallows in order to get his dessert...his favorite dessert which he is thrilled for, spinach....love it!
And finally, my favorite sheep who cannot fall asleep, Russell. If you get the really fancy one, the book actually makes snoring sounds on the last page.

oh what a very fun post! Thanks for introducing me to a few new books!
I agree, reading to kids and giving them books is just the best gift.
I love books too. My mom used to read to me a lot when I was little and I still read constantly. I've already started purchasing some books that I thought were really cute. I may have to look at some of yours too.
I love books- Junie B books are hilarious and I can't wait til my twins can appreciate all the books we bought them (Llama Llama series, I love you stinky face (this is a huge hit at our house!). But most books here have chew marks on them because 1 year olds really don't like to sit and read like mommies do. You will see :)
This is a fun topic. I recently discovered the Olivia books, and will be giving out two of them for the holidays. They are wonderful and I love the humour.
One of my favourites from my childhood was Richard Scarry's "Busy Busy World", which unfortunately is no longer in print. I was able to buy a copy on ebay.
Another one that was very popular with my nephew is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". It's a durable book too, which is a good thing!
I hope that when we have kids someday, they will inherit my DH's and my love for books and reading.
Oh, and thanks for your comments on my blog :)
We are so on the same page, sister. More books, more frogs, more woods, more bikes. I hate what FOX news' scare tactics and its pedophile reports have done to the collective consciousness of parenthood in the US today. It seems that kids aren't free to play unstructured anymore.
