Irregular

Thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.........thump.........thump........thump.........thump, thump, thump, thump, thump.

This pattern is what I have heard this morning. His heartbeat is very irregular today, it will beat normally, stop abruptly and go so slowly and then pick back up again. Then it will beat again normal for 3 or 4 minutes and then the same thing will happen.

I have a call into my OB and the nurse is checking in with one of the doctors and is going to get back to me shortly. Anyone ever had this happen?? Worried does not even explain how I am feeling right now.

*** Nurse called back and had spoken to Peri nurse. She stated this is likely normal and neither good nor bad. I am surprised a constant slowing of the heart is normal though... I have an appointment for Tuesday so hopefully he will still be okay until then.

I don't have any insight on this, but just letting you know that I am thinking about you and the little one. Come on Tuesday and hurry up!

I am sure all is fine, but it will be a relief to know for sure at your appointment. With my experience thus far, the girls' heartbeats change ALOT depending on what I am doing, eating, stressing about, time of day etc. I have even seen their HB rise and slow when OB is pushing around on them in the office. I know it is probably of little help, but just thought I would try! How was/is your trip? I am soooooo jealous!

I don't know anything, but I still want to add my 2 cents. When I get my NSTs done, the baby's heart rate is all over the place. And they specifically look for decelerations as well as accelerations. And as long as they get both, they consider that reactive, meaning good. They told me that too much of one way or the other would be a potential sign of distress.

I don't know if this will help or not, but this was my experience with monitoring in the hospital. With heart rate decelerations, they are normal as long as they recover quickly. They worry when there is a long, slow deceleration that takes them awhile to recover from. I know it will be impossible not to worry. So I'll just say that I'm thinking positive thoughts for you and for Sprout.

I can imagine how frightened you must feel. I remember listening on my home doppler and hearing her heart speed up and slow down. I'm not sure if it was to the degree you describe, but I freaked out. The doc said the rate increases when the baby moves (and you might no feel the movement) and decreases when its still. Maybe this is what you were hearing? Regardless I too hope that Tuesday comes quickly.

I don't have any experience in this area but I am glad your appointment is soon.

I know how worried you are. You are in my thoughts and prayers . . .

I've been getting NSTs every week for the past few weeks now, and my peri said the same as another commenter CLC. He said that the accelerations and decelerations correlate to their movements- that is how babies' circulatory systems work. I know you won't feel better until Tuesday though... hope you have a reassuring appointment.

I have no idea about this either and quite frankly I've never listened to one baby's heart beat for 3-4 minutes...I'm usually on to try and find the other's heart beat...but I have heard that movement would change the beat slightly...keep us updated. Crossinb my fingers that everythin is as it should be...but seriously I have a feeling that this is totally normal.
